Now
What is this page?
This is a "now" page. Rather than telling you generally about me, how to get in touch with me, or various other things, it tells you what I've been up to, what I'm doing these days.
There is a much more thorough explanation here. To quote them, however, this sums it up quite well:
Think of what you’d tell a friend you hadn’t seen in a year.
Updated October 18th, 2024, from Amsterdam.
TLDR;
I graduated from the Master of Logic in August, and a few weeks after that I accepted a PhD position in Leiden with Tobias Kappé, who was my master thesis' supervisor. Lastly, in the interim time, I finally put together this website!
Graduated from the Master of Logic
I worked all summer on my thesis, and finished it in August. It was…really hard. Just three weeks later I defended, and officially graduated as a Master of Logic!
I originally came to Amsterdam because I wanted to study category theory. At this point I tell just about everyone I can that the word category does not appear one time in my thesis. I'm not sure just what to make of that, but I certainly don't regret my topic, nor do I regret coming to the Netherlands.
Made this website (finally)
I originally bought this domain and threw a "site under construction" page up in October of 2023. Then I spent a year very busy and paralysed by indecision about what to do. But at last, I got my ducks in a row and here we are!
I plan to gradually develop all of the pages properly (and probably shift them around a fair bit too) forever and ever and ever. For now, I'm just happy that something is up here.
Started a PhD position in Leiden!
I figured that my master thesis would be my last academic project for a while, as I went off to get a "real job". I didn't even apply to any PhD positions, as I was scared of compromising on topic, living situation, salary, etc..
Instead, as luck would have it, one of my thesis supervisors, Tobias Kappé, was starting an assistant professorship at Universiteit Leiden and needed a new PhD student! The opportunity to work with Tobias again and pick up where we left off, all without having to leave the Netherlands, was a bit like a dream come true.
